Always ask for any form of identification. Don't forget to ask many questions. Also, don't make decisions that are hasty especially when it comes to giving away money.

Never invite strangers in your entryway or houses. Step out and only then should you speak to them.

If it is dark and you are alone, don't feel at all obligated to entertain and open your door.

Ask trusted family, neighbors and friends to get your mail

This is if you plan to be significantly away for a particular period of time. You could also ask your mailman to halt the deliveries of your mail for a particular time period.

Secure your possessions and valuables

If you are going to have a party during the holidays, it is best that you keep all your possessions in a common area.

Though you may know the guests you have invited, the friend or the date of your guest may be unknown to you.

Don't leave any items, especially tempting and expensive ones, out in the open.
