Knowing the components of a home security system

Home security is a very significant issue knowing the increasing rate of criminality in almost all areas. A responsible homeowner should make sure that his home is well protected and that he has installed a home security system along with the home plan.

However, home security isn't a common topic and not everyone is knowledgeable about the components of a proper home security system. Home security products are becoming more modern and it is difficult to catch up with the complexities of various components of home security products and systems.

Every home security system should consist of a security alarm which will warn the inhabitants of a home whenever an intruder opens any door or window in the home. However, a simple alarm would be useless in front of a very experienced intruder.

The alarm system should thus be supported by another component which is the motion sensor. Burglars may be able to go around security alarms but they can never escape motion sensors especially if these have been strategically placed all over the house.

To strengthen the alarm and the motion sensor components, it should be accompanied by a monitoring system which is set off once the alarm and the sensor has been disturbed. The monitor will be attached to a phone line and a certain number will be immediately called when such happens. In most cases, monitoring systems first call the number of the homeowner to make sure they haven't accidentally tripped the alarm and if not then the call will be immediately redirected to the police.

The three components will be strengthened with the addition of a monitoring or surveillance camera. The owner can attach the camera to a computer which will broadcast live the goings on inside his home no matter where he is. If such a sophisticated device isn't available then the video footage will be able to inform the owner if ever there are irregularities in his home.

These components may have ensured that the home is secured from possible intruders. However, if the intruders are able to break in then a safe will thwart their intention to get valuable properties like jewelry or money unless of course they are able to carry the safe outside the home and open it forcefully.

There are other components to a home security system and adding more to the basic components will only make the owner more secure in the knowledge that he has done everything humanly possible to protect his property.
